| So indeed, peri-menopause is the beginning of menopause, marked by the onset of menopause symptoms such as hot flashes and menstral irregularity. But why? The ovaries are responsible for producing both estrogen and progesterone, two necessary hormones for proper healthy functioning of the female body. Over time the ovaries begin to decrease the amount of both estrogen and progesterone that they produce.
